“I returned to Japan to photograph something close to me, without knowing exactly what. I was looking for calm in a megacity where it seems impossible to find. I thought that if I could discover it in Tokyo, then perhaps I could also find it within myself.
It was then that I discovered the Kodo, a trail winding through forests and rocky terrain. I got lost there for several days, and this wandering acted as a revelation. After seven days of walking, I returned to Tokyo covered in mud, but filled with a peace that a city of thirty million inhabitants cannot disturb.
For the next month, I photographed relentlessly, with a newfound conviction and clarity. Each image became a scene, almost a play, both fragile and intensely present. I raised the camera again and again, gratefully: once more, photography had opened a new path for me." -- Martin Bogren
