Over the following one hundred years, tens of thousands of men (it has always been an almost exclusively male job) made a seasonal living at fishing stations in every coastal community. They worked with the flow of the tides and the rhythms of the seasons to supply Scottish salmon to customers in this country and abroad. By the mid-1990s, however, a complicated mix of economic and environmental factors meant the industry was in sharp decline, making Colin McPherson’s work a race against time to photograph the last salmon net fishermen.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eColin McPherson has enjoyed a thirty-five year career as a photojournalist and documentary photographer covering news and features at home and abroad for leading newspapers, magazines and photo agencies, principally the\u003ci\u003e Independent, Independent on Sunday, The Guardian \u003c\/i\u003eand \u003ci\u003eThe Times\u003c\/i\u003e.
